Mortals need a little reinforcement. Yeah, I can go with that.
Of course, now I'm imagining that all the casting magic-users have ever done on any D&D world has all been part of a profoundly elaborate practical joke: "LOOOOO-KI! YOU GOT SOME 'SPLAININ' TO DO!"
Perhaps the witches and warlocks in Bewitched are just "the fey" - immortal, human-looking, but generally inhuman in their attitudes. They tolerate mortals, but don't understand them and enjoy bedeviling them.
Oh - and I like the idea that Uncle Arthur and Loki are one and the same.
