RPGs in Iran? Maybe so ...

I was checking out my audience today, and came across a visitor from Iran.

I've never seen Iran show up there, so it really stood out to me. That either means there is somebody in that nation that plays RPGs and came looking for the Land of Nod, or that they got here accidentally. Perusing my traffic sources, all the search terms were blog related, and the google images people had found me with were RPG-ish, so I'm going to hope that there's some cool RPG scene in Iran that I know nothing about - but would love to learn more about. If you're an RPG'r from Iran and you've visited this blog, drop me a line or leave a comment.

That's it for now. Megacrawl update coming later.

  1. We had somebody (apparently) viewing from Egypt in the middle of the Tahrir Square protests bad in February. I figured, well of course the blog is awesome, but I don't think I'd be reading it if I was in Egypt at that point. But people gotta have their sleestak and dimetrodon pictures, you know.

  2. I guess we have to assume, at this point, that RPGs are the main driving force behind the revolutions rocking the Middle East. Is there anything the d20 can't do?

  3. I also have a few pageviews from Iran. Certainly piques my curiousity.

  4. It's neat to see where people are coming from to view our stuff. When Tim did his post on Rockin' Your Bathroom Medieval Style, he got a ton of hits from Texas. Over and over for the same post.

  5. I've had several hits from Iran on my blog as well. None of them seemed to be related to unusual searches either. Maybe someone over there is playing some old school games. It certainly gives new meaning to Old School Revolution.

  6. Yeah, I've had readers of Mythopoeic Rambling from Iran. I've asked my Persian (as they like to style themselves in the US) friends, and based on my talks with them and my viewing of Iranian films, I've decided that Iran is the Middle Eastern country full of wonderful people who got saddled with totally insane rulers, unlike some Middle Eastern countries where the population is full of crazies and friendly leaders are keeping the lid on them...barely. This is a totally non-expert-on-the-subject opinion, but of course my friends agreed. Here's wishing the Iranians greater freedom and gaming!

@Happy Whisk: I was one of those Texan readers...and yeah, I did send a link around. Hee-hee!

  9. @Theodric: Thats a pretty accurate summary of Iran. For the most part, it's a nation of moderates ruled by extremeists.

  10. Maybe they are looking for a RPG-7 manual? Just saying it is a possibility.

  11. I've got 35 pageviews from Iran in the past month. It doesn't make the all time list of countries with the big three of the U.S, Canada and the UK being followed (in order) by Germany, Australia, South Korea, Italy, France, Russia and Japan.
